The “Peanuts” Were Sold For $175 Million

According to an article on Yahoo! Buzz, newspaper publisher and TV station owner, E.W. Scripps is selling the licensing rights for the “Peanuts” gang to Iconix Brand Group, which also owns Joe Boxer and Danskin. How much you ask, $175 million.

An article from the AP explains that the family of Mr. Schulz will receive 20% ownership and pay that percentage of the sale price. CNN reported that the “Peanuts” brand is currently licensed in over 40 countries and generates annual sales of over $2 billion.

According to Yahoo! Search, Snoopy is by far the most popular character. Charlie Brown comes in second, and “tomboy” Peppermint Patty is third.
