Support Your Local Musicians

I saw today on www.contactmusic.com that 50 Cent “could care less” about the Grammy Awards. I say, “Good for him.” He’s right, the Grammys are rigged, in my opinion. The more money you give the radio stations, the more they’ll play your song. The more the radio stations play your song, the more popular you get. The more popular you get, the more awards that you receive. It’s not just about talent anymore. It’s ALL ABOUT MONEY! Money makes the world go around. If you have it, you’re golden. If you don’t, you’re pretty much considered trash. This is wrong thinking, people.

Whatever happened to listening to some good, quality musicians. I’ll tell you where most of them are… they’re the ones that are playing their hearts out in some local dive bar… doing it because that is what they LOVE, and feeling like they can speak to people through their music. Most (but not all) bands/artists that are around now-a-days had their best music on their very first CD. That’s not just because they ran out of talent (although some of them may have LOL)… most of the time it is because the big-wigs from the music company are TELLING the bands what they need to play.

I hope that I’m not the only one that disagrees with this. Next time you listen to your favorite radio station, think about how many advertisements that you hear, or how many times you keep hearing that stupid song that keeps getting stuck in your head because you’ve heard it so much on the radio. And then, get mad. But you don’t have to do anything drastic. All that I ask you to do, is to look in the newspaper or wherever you can find it, and find some live music in the genre that you like. Then go and listen to it. Enjoy yourself, knowing that you are supporting something great.
