Well went to the theatre for the first time in I can not remember how long and watched Avatar. Yes all the hype was right and so was the award. The movie was about 2 1/2 hrs long but well worth it. To me the movie was not just a tree hugger movie as so many people I know call it, it is about different cultures and understanding them. As well as the value of different people.
If you have not seen the movie and want to be surprised stop reading now. Do not want to spoil it for you.
Here is a movie that takes a man in a wheel chair who happens to me a Marine. His brother was a brilliant scientist and passes away, happens to be his twin. So due to this the brother that was the Marine is taking his place. The primise I think is that being a Marine and not a scientist the commanders think he will be able to help the real cause for being there which is money not learning like the scientist.
But, this back fires due to him being a Marine(warrior) the people accept him and teach him about their culture. Ofcourse there is a love interest, there has to be complications in that area some how. This allows a man who has no scientific interest what so ever to understand the people and their connection with the planet.
Not only is this movie about the earth and how it effects us and how we effect it but how we treat other cultures and beliefs. At least this is my opinion. I actually really liked this movie a lot. I did not see it in 3D but I am sure it would have been great in 3D. This movie also shows that if we are open minded about other people and what they believe then we can change as a whole and learn from them.
They did to a small extent leave the ending open for a sequel if they choose to do so. NOt quite sure what direction they would go but it is possible.
