School Is Not For Me

I’m 36 years old, and work in a field that I no longer care to be a part of.  The only problem is that I have been in this line of work for fourteen years, and don’t really have any experience at anything where I can make similar money without a college degree.  So what is the answer?  Everyone keeps saying to go back to school, but after sixteen plus years (I went to community college several years after dropping out of university LOL) I realize that school is not for me.

The highlight of my school career was in the fifth grade, when I got straight A’s.  Even back then, I wasn’t real interested in school, but always made grades that were good enough to keep my parents off my back LOL.  In high school, I was more interested in girls and music than schoolwork, but did manage to make the National Honor Society my senior year (a year later than most).  I made the Who’s Who of National High School Seniors (which really only got my name in some stupid book LOL), and graduated in the top 10 of my graduating class.  The problem with that was the fact that universities only granted scholarships to the top 5% of graduating seniors, when my small class-size put me in the 6th percentile, so no scholarships for me.

I ended up going to university anyway, because that was the thing to do, and actually got a half-tuition music scholarship.  The rest was funded by student loans that I’m still paying back fifteen years later.  What a big joke that is.  Anyways, my university days were spent trying to get into as many music performance classes that I could get into, so all of the rest fell by the wayside.  I spent four years at a university, and then another year, ten or so years later, at a community college and STILL don’t have any type of degree.

I’ve contemplated going back to school several times in order to try and change careers, but school is not for me.  Growing up, I always felt that I was born to be independently wealthy, and now I just need to figure out a way to make it happen.  Now where did I put those lottery tickets, anyways?  LOL
