Snacks For The Game

Today’s playoff games are in full action, and as the game rolls on, people are going to start getting hungry.  It doesn’t matter what your budget is, there is something for everyone.  So what kind of snacks do you have for the game?

I like to keep things simple… meaning something that doesn’t require a lot of prep work.  One of my favorites are just simple ol’ chips and salsa.  Growing up, I would always have my parents buy Pace Picante Sauce.  At first, I would get the mild stuff, but then started to develop a liking for the medium.  Nowadays, my wife learned how to make some killer homemade salsa, so I’m kinda spoiled when it comes to that, but it just depends on what you have available.

The chip of choice for me would be Tostitos Scoops.  I like them because they’re shaped like little bowls allowing you to scoop maximum salsa per chip that you couldn’t do with a regular chip.  Lately times have been tough, though, and we’ve been getting these chips at our local HEB supermarket.  I don’t even remember what brand they are, but they come in a yellow bag that says something like “Always $2″… they’re cheaper than most other name brand chips, but don’t skimp on flavor or crunch.  To me, they’re the best bang for the buck.

I like to get a little crazy with my dip, and while it may not be the best for you, I think it’s delicious.  I like to get a package of Velveeta cheese and cut it up into cubes.  Then you can add either your favorite salsa, or a can of Hormel chili (no beans) to it.  Microwave for a minute or two, and voila… custom cheese dip.  My other favorite is getting a package of that Lipton onion soup and throwing it together with some sour cream for some good sour cream and onion dip.

You need something to wash all of this down with, and one of my favorites is Lone Star Beer.  Being a resident of Texas myself, and with its low price, it just makes sense… and it doesn’t taste all that bad, either.  My other favorite is an old southern classic… Sweet Tea.  You basically just brew some iced tea, and load it up with some sugar, then throw it in the fridge for a few hours.  It seems like the tea just absorbs the sugar, making it sweeter than just having regular tea and putting a couple of packets of sugar in it.

Well there you have it… My favorite snacks for kicking back and watching the game.  There are so many different snack foods available that you shouldn’t let your guests go hungry, and most are just so simple to make that you won’t need to spend all day in the kitchen.  So what kind of snacks will you have for the game?
