Top 5 Places To Eat In New Braunfels, TX

Being a resident of New Braunfels a little over six months, I thought I would put together a top 5 list of my favorite places to eat.  There are probably several other places to eat at that I haven’t been to yet, but all of these places can make your tastebuds water.  Here are my top 5 places to eat in New Braunfels, TX:

  • Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q – Located at the corner of Loop 337 and Common Street, Rudy’s is a neat little place that has awesome brisket and smoked turkey.  Their turkey is the best that I have ever tasted.  You can round out your meal with a cup of their green chili stew, some “new” potatoes (red potatoes in butter), and some banana pudding.  Oh, and don’t forget about their sweet tea.  It’s delicious.  We can feed our family of six for about 50 bucks, and usually either overeat or have plenty of leftovers.  LOL
  • Montana Mike’s Steakhouse – Located near the corner of Loop 337 and Elliott Knox Blvd, Montana Mike’s has some awesome food at decent prices.  They have steak, prime rib, seafood, and chicken… and most plates are under 20 bucks.  You should start out with some of the steak soup, as it is simply delicious.  My wife and I were pleasantly surprised when we ate here, as the food was good, and it didn’t break the bank.
  • Buffalo Wings and Rings – Also located on Loop 337 just west of Common Street, Buffalo Wings and Rings is a nice family place to eat.  There are several flat-screen TVs on the wall that normally play whatever important games that are on.  Here you can have as many different flavors of wings that you want, in whatever spice level you want.  They also have good burgers, and other types of sandwiches.  With appetizers and everything, our bill was around 65-70 bucks, which is very reasonable for a family of six.
  • Freddy’s Steakburgers and Frozen Custard- Located on Loop 337 between Elliott Knox and Common, we found Freddy’s while looking for a substitute for In-N-Out Burger, as there are none in Texas.  We were quite surprised with Freddy’s.  Freddy’s steakburgers are as good as, or even better, than In-N-Out.  They also serve onion rings, which In-N-Out doesn’t.  As good as the burgers are at Freddy’s, the highlight of our visit was trying the frozen custard.  If you haven’t tried Freddy’s frozen custard, I highly recommend it.  It is creamier than regular ice cream, and even more delicious.  We can usually get out of Freddy’s at around 30 bucks for dinner, but if you add the custard that’s about another 20 bucks more.  Good stuff, though.
  • NY Pizza & Pub- Located towards the top of Loop 337, near the intersection of Highway 46, we tried this pizza place on a whim while on our way back home from San Antonio.  Our oldest daughter was craving spaghetti, and so I thought that maybe a traditional family pizza parlor might have some.  I was wrong about the spaghetti, but right on with the pizza.  This pizza is probably the best that I have ever eaten, and their wings are good, too.  After eating here, I told my wife that I would never eat Papa John’s or Domino’s again LOL.  We usually just get two large pizzas for around 30 bucks, but they’re well worth it as there is always some left over.  If we eat at the restaurant and have drinks and appetizers, the bill could easily creep up towards $50, but it is worth every penny.

There you have my top 5 favorite places to eat in New Braunfels, Texas.  I’m probably missing several good places to eat, but these are the ones that we have found that our family enjoys.  We try to keep the bill to a minimum, so you won’t find any high-class places on here.  If you’re ever down in New Braunfels, stop in and check these places out for yourselves.  Your taste buds will thank you.
