I can’t wait to go on my next cruise. It’s been way too long. I went on my first cruise back in 1997. It was a wedding gift from my parents for my first marriage. It wasn’t anything special, just a little 4-day trip from Long Beach with stops at Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico. It was a good little trip but there was nothing real exciting about it (probably due to the company LOL), and I couldn’t decide whether or not I wanted to go on another cruise again.
My divorce was final in April 2001 (big surprise LOL), and I guess my family decided that I needed a vacation. My uncle was involved with this group that got decent prices on cruises, and were trying to get my parents to go on one. My brother got divorced a year or so before I did, and we had recently lost some grandparents, so my parents thought it would be a good idea for all of us to go… my parents, my brother, and myself. In addition, my uncle and cousins were going, along with some friends of theirs. The cruise was scheduled for early November 2001, and it was already turning into a more exciting trip than my first one. That cruise left out of New Orleans and was a 7-day cruise with stops in Jamaica, Cayman Islands, and Cozumel, Mexico. Despite getting a severe sinus infection halfway through the cruise, we had an awesome time, and now I was hooked. I had to go on more cruises!
The next cruise we went on was in 2003. We left this time out of Galveston, TX and made three stops… one in Belize, one in Cozumel, and I was so drunk that I actually don’t remember the last stop! LOL I was having girl troubles at the time, and decided that I would spend the whole cruise drunk of my butt in order to have a good time. I succeeded, but ended up with an $800 bar bill at the end of the trip! LOL
In October of 2004, I got a big group of friends together to go on another one. We left Long Beach for a 7-day trip down to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas. We had an absolute blast! We must have kept our blood-alcohol level around a .15% the whole time. We met a whole lot of other people, and had the time of our lives.
In May 2005, I went on what would be the last cruise that I’ve been on. We left out of Galveston, TX with stops in Belize and Mexico, namely Progreso/Merida and Cozumel. I had just recently met my current wife and took her along for the trip. We had an awesome time! Granted, she was a few months pregnant and ended up getting seasick, but even she had a great time. This was the best cruise that I’ve been on. And the main reason is that I was happy being in the company of the love of my life. Rather than drinking the cruise away (which I do admit is a fun time LOL) we decided to do an excursion at each stop. This was a great way to see things that you may never see again, and to also learn to appreciate the things that you do have.
I haven’t been on a cruise since. Believe me, it’s not because I don’t want to go again. It’s been purely based on lack of financing. My wife and I each have had a failed attempt at a new business venture, and family comes first. We do plan on going on another cruise, and hopefully real soon. Cruises are great… They’re like little floating cities, and there’s a little bit of something for everybody. So whether you’re single and want to party ’til the sun comes up, newlyweds looking for some alone time, or a family looking for a nice vacation together… look into going on a cruise. You won’t be disappointed.
